Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has shown interest in providing timely chemical fertilizers to farmers and applying them in commercial production.
In a discussion with the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Ramnath Adhikari and senior officials on Friday at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, Singhdarbar, Prime Minister Oli instructed to start the procurement process by estimating how much fertilizer will be needed in the coming November.
56 percent of the total budget of the ministry is in chemical fertilizer grant. By subsidizing up to 67 percent of the chemical fertilizers purchased by farmers, the ministry requested Prime Minister Oli to simplify the procurement process.
Prime Minister Oli advised the farmers to go for collective farming system on appropriate land to create an environment where they can only farm profitably and urged them to buy food items that are not produced in the country on time. Prime Minister Oli instructed to come up with a clear plan on where and what can be done for appropriate farming including fish farming, milk production, oranges, cashews, lang and spices.
He also suggested to make health examination mandatory when bringing livestock into Nepal and when sending them abroad, to eliminate rabies disease within the next three years, to stop black market, to go to the system where the beneficiary pays instead of the continuation of subsidies.
