  • The diver asked for modern equipment saying that it was risky to rescue water with old suits and equipment

The personnel (divers) of the armed police who went into the water and searched not only searched for the bus and passengers submerged in the river, but also took out the parts of the ship that crashed in Pokhara Seti Khonch by diving into the river. But what is the condition of the diver who joins the search?

After two buses fell into a landslide in Simaltal and disappeared in the Trishuli river, the condition of the equipment used in search and rescue was discussed before the task force formed to study it.

The study task force formed under the coordination of Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Chabilal Rizal is in the final preparation of writing the report. On Friday, representatives of the task force, including coordinator Rizal, who came to the Armed Forces Disaster Management Training Academy in Kurintar, Chitwan, discussed with the officials of the academy.

We take many risks in the water. New equipment used by divers has arrived. But we are relying on the old ones," said Sai Ramesh Bahadur Thapa of the diving academy. Armed Forces SP Janak Puri, who is the co-director of the academy, said that the diver's suits and equipment, which have been used for a long time, are outdated.

It has come to light during search and rescue after the Simaltal incident that a motorboat is also needed. A motorboat that can handle the flow of water is necessary. It seems more powerful than what we have now," said SP Puri.

At present, armed forces use 40 horse power (HP) motorboats for search and rescue operations in the river. SP Puri said that a motorboat of at least 60 hp is required, even if not twice as much. He also said that the life jackets used in search and rescue should be able to be used in water for 12 hours continuously. Even now life jackets of this quality are used.

Life jacket of this quality is expensive. It is not a matter of looking for another because it is expensive. But different levels give life jackets as support which are cheap and not strong. Such things have to be taken care of, said SP Puri. He said that equipment such as sonar should be bought new in the world market and training should be provided by the company that sells it.

'It turned out that we needed a lot of other equipment. I can see that it will be helpful during the rescue if we can study the condition of the river blocking the road. It is necessary to know where the river is deep, where there may be obstacles, said SP Puri. Rizal, the coordinator of the

study task force, said that the topics raised in the discussion will be included in the report. "There was not a big gap in salvage materials. But we understood that modern technology and tools that have come into vogue in the world were not there. We will point out this matter in the report,' said Rizal, the coordinator of the working group.

In the early morning of last June 28, two buses were hit by a landslide at Simaltal on the Narayangadh-Muglin road and fell down the road into the Trishuli river. Three passengers were found safe and the bodies of 19 people were found and identified in this incident.

Indian technicians came and searched for a week, but no sign of the bus was found. Coordinator Rizal said that the study working group formed on June 31 will submit its report within two/four days.
