  • Why could not the signed letter be presented in Parliament? Why couldn't those parties do it? Why are they hiding that? Someone is saying 9 points, is it 9 points or 15 points?'

Former Prime Minister and respected leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhalnath Khanal has said that the agreement between Congress and UML to amend the constitution will not be accepted.

In a program organized by the Pushpalal Memorial Foundation in Kathmandu on Saturday, Khanal said that the agreement made by the ruling party for power interests is not acceptable. Mentioning that it was heard that there was an agreement between the two major parties to destroy the proportional system, he said that he would oppose doing so. He also suggested that big political parties should not make the issue of constitutional amendment a topic of controversy.

'Where did the so-called agreement made by these two parties come from? Look at the fact that the parliament has also been rigged, why could not the signed letter be presented in the parliament? Why couldn't those parties do it ? Why are they hiding that? Some say 9 points . 9 points or 15 points? What do we know? Correct consent letter? We want that,' said Khanal, 'to amend what? This is the constitution made by the Constituent Assembly. Not made by anyone's eyes . It is not made by only two parties. Any amendment that does not express the mandate of the Constituent Assembly is not acceptable to the Nepali people. Constitution amendment is not such a game. Do two parties play such a tough game for their own power interests?'

Khanal's statement was that the constitution was going to be amended to end the proportional representation in the parliament. He also said that there will be protests across the country. 'This is a proportional system that we have brought to represent different groups, castes, groups, regions etc . The proportional system is representing the interests of weak, small, backward groups,' he said.
