The three parties have reached an in-principle agreement on the Transitional Justice (TRC) Bill. Now, the Facilitation Working Group formed to reach agreement on the bill will finalize the report after a one-step discussion with the stakeholders next Monday.
After the meeting held in the office of Home Minister Ramesh Ukhtar on Friday, the members of the working group informed that they have now reached the final stage.
'Theoretical discussion is around consensus . Now let's agree on what to write the words in practice . We will take the opinion of the stakeholders," said Maoist Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma, a member of the Facilitation Working Group.
UML chief whip Mahesh Bertaula also He informed that consultation will be done now to finalize it. "Now let's go to the end," he said.
On behalf of Congress, UML and Maoists respectively, the working group consisting of Ramesh Ukhar, Mahesh Bertaula and Janardan Sharma, respectively, agreed on last Tuesday to put a provision to reduce the punishment of those involved in war crimes by up to 75 percent, speeding up the discussion on the issue pending agreement on the TRC law amendment draft pending in the Parliament. They also agreed on what constitutes a serious human rights violation on Tuesday. Accordingly, brutal killings and premeditated killings will be defined as 'serious violations of human rights'.
