Summit of the Future: A UN Campaign for Common Resolution on World Problems

The conference is going to be held under the leadership of Secretary General Guterres to show the way forward in the current crisis world situation.

Summit of the Future has been interpreted as an important meeting that unites leaders to redefine the path of the future while protecting the challenges of the current situation in the world .

The UN has started inviting heads of government and heads of state from around the world to participate in the same conference. As a continuation of the same, on May 24, Hana Singler Hamdi, the resident representative of the UN in Nepal, met Prime Minister Dahal and handed over the invitation letter of Secretary General Guterres.

On that occasion, Prime Minister Dahal said that he was positive to participate in the conference organized by the UN. Hamdi, the resident representative of the UN, mentioned that Nepal is providing important support to the UN's world peace campaign and said that Nepal should participate in the upcoming "Summit of the Future" for the role played by Nepal in the recent climate change .

With the invitation to Prime Minister Dahal, the government has also started homework regarding the Summit of the Future. The Summit of the Future conference will be held on October 6 and 7. Germany and Namibia are co-hosts of the conference.

What is the Summit of the Future?

The conference, which is going to be held by the UN for the first time, has been mentioned as a high-level event. Where world leaders are brought together to help create a new international consensus on how to improve the current situation and how to secure the future. It is mentioned that the

conference will work to improve the lack of trust in the current generation and show that international cooperation can effectively face the challenges that have appeared in recent years. In the words of Secretary General Guterres, the world is currently in the most critical situation since the Second World War. Guterres is saying that there is a weakness in multilateralism and the problem of climate change is increasing day by day. There are two big wars going on in the world now, and internal and external conflicts are going on in many places.

Although the Russia-Ukraine war has been going on for two years, it is not in a state of stopping, while the conflict between Israel and Hamas in West Asia is also continuing. These two wars are affecting the economic, social, political, diplomatic, climate and other fields all over the world . On the other hand, it seems difficult to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the UN from 2016 with 17 goals under the slogan "Leave no one behind".

In 2019, poverty has increased due to the economic sector being badly affected by the Covid-19 infection. While the SDG slogan is 'leaving no one behind', there is a situation in the world where the rich continue to get richer and the poor continue to fall into the grip of poverty.

Secretary-General Guterres brought out in the report 'Our Common Agenda' to address the issues of peace and security . In which he proposed a summit to set a 'new agenda for peace' with more investment for peace building, support for regional conflict prevention. The Secretary General has promoted this dialogue to reduce strategic risks such as nuclear weapons and cyber war in a peaceful and sustainable manner.

Guterres described the conference as an opportunity to "reinvigorate global action, re-commit to fundamental principles and further develop the framework of multilateralism".

What is Nepal's role?

Nepal is one of the countries most affected by climate change.
