The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) has drawn the attention of the government to carry out the necessary legal process to review the judgment of the Supreme Court regarding the river coastal areas of Kathmandu Valley.

The Maoists have requested the government to immediately start the process of correcting the order of the judgment which deprived the citizens of the rights and interests granted by the constitution and had a retrospective effect.

The Supreme Court ordered last December to designate a no-construction zone on the banks of Bagmati and Bishnumati, the major rivers of Kathmandu and their tributaries, by adding 20 meters each to the previously determined standards, so that no new structures can be built. According to Agni Prasad Sapkota, Vice President and Spokesperson of the Maoist Center, through the implementation of the decision, lakhs of families in the valley will lose their homes, property or the value of their property, many families will become homeless, propertyless and slum dwellers.

The Maoist center has drawn the attention of all the local levels in the valley, including the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, not to hasten the implementation of the decision that has affected the constitutional rights and interests of many people of the valley.
