Kathmandu Metropolitan City has started monitoring cooperative organizations. While monitoring 40 different cooperative organizations, the metropolis has sent 7 to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police for further investigation and action.

The metropolis monitored cooperatives within the metropolis from March 16, 2080 to June 7 last. Based on the report prepared after the monitoring, six savings and loan cooperatives and one multi-purpose cooperative among the said cooperatives, the process for taking action has been moved forward, according to the metropolis.

Metropolitan Cooperative Regulation Division Chief and Member Secretary of the Monitoring Committee Sushil Subedi said that during the monitoring, 32 cooperatives were asked for an explanation and they have already received clarification.

According to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Cooperative Act 2074, depending on the seriousness of the offence, there is a provision for a maximum fine of five lakh rupees and a maximum imprisonment of 10 years.
