  • Students who pass more than the quota in science will get admission in vacant seats in management, law, humanities and education

In the examination conducted by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City for scholarships in class 11 and 12, more than four times more than the quota of science group students got merit. In management, law, humanities and education groups, only fewer students than the scholarship quota have passed.

According to the results of the scholarship exam announced by the metropolis on Monday, 6720 students have passed the scholarship exam for 1757 quotas in science. 7,665 students participated in the science group exam. Govinda Prasad Sharma, the education officer of the education department of the metropolis, informed the management that only 1,381 students out of 2,493 quotas passed the examination taken for the scholarship. According to him, only 73 out of 136 seats in law, 15 out of 70 seats in education and 8 out of 173 seats in humanities have passed.

There were about 8,500 applications for science, 2,500 for management, 153 for law, 37 for education and 13 for humanities. Kathmandu Metropolitan City conducted the examination to provide scholarships in 4 thousand 629 quotas in all groups. Preference was given to students who passed class 10 from public schools in the scholarship. According to the department, the students who passed the examination will be sent for admission after 'matching' according to the order of priority of the educational institution. According to the legal provision that 10 percent of the students enrolled in private schools should be provided with free scholarships, the metropolis has been selecting students through an integrated examination.

According to Education Officer Sharma, there is an arrangement that in the final matching, students can be admitted based on the order of merit in any subject, so that the seats do not go vacant after more than the quota in science and less than the quota in others. According to the arrangement, students who have passed more than the quota in science will get admission in the faculty of management, law, education and humanities under the scholarship quota.

Sasmit Pokharel, a member of the Secretariat of Metropolitan Chief Balen Shah, said that the students who passed in one group will also be admitted to the other group so as not to waste the quota. "If the quota provided by the educational institution is not fulfilled, we will also take the examination of the students coming from the supplementary examination of SEE and provide scholarships," he said. Students selected for the

scholarship will be recommended to the educational institution for admission by July 13. "Educational institutions will be recommended to the candidates on July 13 for admission based on the merit and preference of the educational institutions selected by the scholarship distribution test and the candidates through online," Mayor Shah wrote on social media, "For the students who are waiting to receive scholarships based on merit and preference, the scholarship quota is empty. The school will be given the opportunity to rematch. During re-matching, candidates who have applied in one subject group will be allowed to choose an educational institution in another subject group as well. The re-matching time will be published later.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has arranged to provide more than 85 percent of the scholarships distributed by private schools to students who have studied in public schools since last year. A procedure has been made to provide scholarships based on merit and ability to students entering private schools in class 11 by conducting an integrated entrance examination.

There are 390 private schools operating in the metropolitan city, of which 104 teach science subjects, 170 teach management, 47 teach law, 18 teach education and 51 teach humanities.
