A 'break through' has taken place in the tunnel route of the 50 MW capacity United Mewa hydropower project under construction in Meringden and Mikwakhola Rural Municipality. The work of the 4,800 meter long tunnel has been completed.

Within 25 months of the start of the work, the basic infrastructure work of the project, including the tunnel, has been completed. Ashish Kedem, the project in-charge of the project informed that 90 percent of the work has been completed.

Water will be pumped in this tunnel. Kedem has said that since the tunnel route to water thiggery has already been built, the work that requires the use of explosives in the project has been completed. Kedem said that he will now increase the work including the circuit.

The project, which aims to start production this year, received production permission from the Electricity Development Department on 15 July 2074. The project also said that it is preparing to issue an IPO for investment in electricity.

The project head Om Prakash Chaudhary informed that the generated electricity will be connected to the substation of Nepal Electricity Authority in Maiwakhola rural municipality 1 Dhungesanghu. Electricity will be connected to the national transmission line from Dhungesanghu to Basantpur.
