Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari has said that the dairy sector is an important sector of Nepal's agricultural economy.
In a program held by the National Dairy Development Board and the Central Dairy Cooperative Association in Lalitpur on Friday, the minister emphasized that both the private and the government should pay the amount to the dairy farmers.
He said that the government's aim in giving a loan of Rs 60 crore to DDC is to make it easier for farmers to get the price of their produce. Stating that the role of dairy cooperatives is important to make the country self-sufficient in milk production, Minister Adhikari said that he is aware of the problems faced by dairy farmers.
Minister Adhikari said that the process of commercializing the Dairy Development Institute has already started. He said in these bodies He also expressed his commitment to make farmers participate.
Currently, there are 1,875 dairy cooperatives in 64 districts and the annual turnover is 10 billion rupees, according to the Central Dairy Cooperative Association. The representatives of the cooperative have complained that there are problems such as difficulty in continuing the profession due to the lack of assurance of animal insurance, problems in the payment of milk for 7 months, lack of sustainable market, unannounced import of dairy products, and legal complications for the cooperative organization to operate the industry.
