  • Kalinchok rural municipality-4 22 wards of Bigu, Gaurishankar and Kalinchok rural villages in the north were cut off after the Jhamarsi river washed away the road near Bancharen.

As the Dolakha-Singti road has been blocked by landslides for two weeks, the lives of the residents of three rural municipalities in the northern region have been affected. Traffic has been completely stopped for two weeks after the landslide caused damage. The life of 50,000 residents of 22 wards of three rural municipalities in the northern region has been affected since the road was not put into operation.

Transportation has come to a standstill in the main business center of the northern region after the road was damaged by the landslide. Mahesh Shrestha, president of Singti Industry and Commerce Association, said that the residents of the northern region are facing more problems after the landslide also swept away the lead road that was available as an alternative.

According to Shrestha, the 22 wards of Bigu, Gaurishankar and Kalinchok Rural Municipality in the north were cut off from the headquarters after the Jhamarsi river washed away the road near Kalinchok Rural Municipality-4 Banchar due to the rain on July 12. He said that since the road is not operational, the stock of consumer goods in Singti is running out. Shrestha said, "Some traders are transporting consumer goods by flipping them. 'Consumers have been hit with higher costs due to the increase in shipping costs.' said A bag of rice costs 30 rupees and gas costs 50 rupees. He says that this has also increased the cost of transportation. It has a direct impact on consumers. The transportation of small and large hydropower projects under construction in this area has also been completely affected.

With the main and alternative roads blocked, the most sick people have been killed. Ambulances carrying patients alternately take patients to health facilities by exchanging passengers at Jhamarsi. All small vehicles from Jhamarsi are completely closed. Motorcycles are taking risks.

Another black paper road, which is an alternative, was washed away by a landslide in Kalinchok Rural Municipality-5 Ghattekhola, said local Puskar Sivakoti. Sanjeev Oli, Chairman of Bigu Rural Municipality, said that after the main road was washed away, they tried to use the lower Tamakoshi river route to operate the alternative road, but it was not possible due to the flow of Tamakoshi.

Oli says that until the road is operational, work is being done to ease transportation and movement by turning it over in Jhamarsi. He said that the municipality is facilitating the transport of sick and urgent patients. "We are aware of the food supply situation in Singti," he said, "We are careful not to have an immediate shortage and black market, we have kept ambulances for the patients on both sides."

Division Road Office Charikot is trying to open the road in coordination with Oli. The situation has become uncomfortable as even the alternative road cannot be opened immediately. Dolakha-Singti is the only alternative road in the northern region. Other subsidiary roads have also been damaged by rain. Divisional Road Office Charikot said that efforts are being made to open the road.

Engineer Bharat Shrestha of Division Road Office Charikot, who was looking at the road, said that the builders have already started working on the road in order to open the road within 15 days after accepting the tender called for in Fasttrack. He said that since the road was drawn from below by the river, even one-way road could not be operated.

'We have mobilized all the mechanisms to open the road,' he said, 'Construction professionals have started work after the agreement, we believe that the road will be operational within two weeks.' The work of the project has also been affected.
