Only last Thursday, 26-year-old Hiradevi Shah died after being attacked by a tiger in Kanchanpur's Dodhara Chandni Municipality 2 Kamalsha Tol. After the tiger attack, the Shuklaphanta National Park team mobilized 5 elephants and a technical team to control the tiger after two days of efforts.

Two days after the Kanchanpur incident, 60-year-old Pashupati Shrestha was attacked by a tiger on the banks of the Narayani river in Chitwan on Sunday morning. The team of Chitwan National Park and National Nature Conservation Fund captured this tiger after searching for almost 16 hours.

The incident of people being attacked by tigers one after the other is not new. Because 68 people have died from tigers in the last 6 financial years. On the one hand, the number of people killed and injured in tiger attacks is increasing and on the other hand, the number of tigers is also increasing significantly.

According to Globber Tiger Forum, the number of tigers in the world has reached 5 thousand 574. The number of tigers in the world is constantly decreasing and there is concern that tigers will become extinct. Since 2010, the number of tigers has increased by 74 percent due to the global initiative of tiger conservation.

In Nepal, the number of tigers has tripled in the last 12 years. In 2010, there were 121 tigers, but in 2022, it increased to 355. Wildlife photojournalist Chungba Sherpa argues that this situation has arisen due to increasing human encroachment on the tiger sanctuary. He said that although humans are not the main diet of tigers, the reason for the increase in tiger attacks on humans is the increase in human activities in tiger habitats.
