Famous folk singer LP Joshi (Lakshmi Prasad Joshi) passed away at the age of 88. According to family sources, Joshi died in Jhapa on Thursday evening while being taken to a hospital in Virtamod.

Born in Dhankuta 6 Beach Bazaar in 1993, Joshi contributed to the field of folk culture throughout his life. It is said that Joshi, who had dinner with his family in the evening, was in normal condition and suddenly fell ill and died. According to poet Dhankute Kancha, who was close to him, Joshi suddenly fainted after having dinner at his house in Damak, Jhapa. The doctor declared him dead soon after he was taken to the hospital. 'He called me by telephone at 10 am,' Dhankute Kanchha said, 'I could not come, but he had a normal conversation.'

Joshi, who is the sixth child of 7 brothers, has 5 sisters, said his younger brother Narayan Joshi. Since his childhood, he was fond of music and football, and he was in folk singing for the rest of his life. 'Contributed to the country for culture,' said Bhai Narayan, 'a month and a half ago, the Indian University of India gave him an honorary doctorate.' He was honored by the President last month. Narayan, who also received the title of Folk Song Emperor, narrated.

According to family sources, Joshi had no other health problems apart from taking regular sugar medication. Most of Joshi's recorded 45 songs in Radio Nepal are still hummed by common people. He recorded his first song in 2013. The song "Nepalko Maya, Nepal Kasto Chha" was recited by Joshi, who was well-prepared at that time, in a meeting some time ago.

Most of the songs were recorded before 2020. From 2022 to 2029, songs by Joshi and folk poet Keshari Dharmaraj Thapa reigned supreme in Radio Nepal. He has been close to Thapa since 2011 and started searching for the original songs of Gau Basti. In the same meso, the song Reiting Reiting...Bol was collected. By the time he arrived in the year 2053, he released a song album called Riting Riting from Music Nepal.

Another popular song sung by him was 'Vallo Kholo Ho Pallo Kholo Kamilako Golo Kere...' which won the hearts of many. In 2019, he sang the song to the then King Mahendra. Joshi was perfect in playing harmonium and tabla. As there was a shortage of singers and cultural workers in his home district Dhankuta, he wandered sometimes to Chitwan and sometimes to the capital. But they could not change their minds. In the end, Joshi, who came to Jhapa, made Damak his work place and was immersed in song/music sadhana.

Joshi's cremation will be held at Kankai Mai in Jhapa on Friday at 11 am. He was staying in Damak with his son Milan and family members.
