The Deputy Chairman of Nepali Congress, Dhanraj Gurung, has claimed that he has been accused of misappropriating cooperative funds to divert the contents of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Cooperative Inquiry.
Speaking at a special time in the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, he claimed that the Rashtriya Swatantra Party had made the accusation against him in order to turn it around when the party chairman Ravi Lamichhane was investigating the co-operative fraud.
Deputy Chairman Gurung also drew the attention of the government and parliament to investigate immediately if there is any suspicion against him.
He said, "I am ready even if a parliamentary inquiry should be conducted." This will be a golden opportunity for me. However, Mr. Speaker, I am not in a responsible position like Home Minister who can hide evidence. I believe in politics of honesty and ethics. I request the Honorable Speaker, Hon'ble Minister of Home Affairs, and concerned agencies to investigate the truth and facts of the allegations against me.'
He also reiterated that he is committed to demonstrating integrity, ethics and good governance. Deputy Chairman Gurung demanded from the government to investigate the officials of the cooperative if he had committed fraud in the Miteri cooperative.
He said, 'Who should be investigated to solve the problems seen in Miteri Savings and Credit Cooperatives? Who should be investigated? An investigation should be carried out immediately. If there is any suspicion on me in this matter, then I should be investigated immediately. Mr. Speaker, I always stick to the belief that no one who commits a mistake should be given immunity.
Recalling that he was found innocent by the honorable court when he was charged in the past, he said, 'At the last moment when the report on cooperative fraud is about to come out, I request that this incident be investigated as soon as possible. Which has registered a proposal of public importance in this parliament that in order to maintain good governance, the assets of people holding public office and employees of Nepal government should be investigated after 2046. So many accusations against him? Who kept raising voices of 500 and 1000 to stop illegal business in this Parliament. So many conspiracies on him? Therefore, I demand a fair investigation of this conspiratorial move. Dhanraj Gurung is an open book. Which happens no matter where the research starts. '
Deputy Chairman Gurung clarified that he divorced his wife Jyoti Gurung.
