The National Human Rights Commission has requested the State Order and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives not to amend the Act so that corruption-related offenses are exempted on the basis of limitation.

On Friday, the Commission wrote to the committee stating that in the bill made to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, the law amendment proposal has been put forward so that corruption-related offenses are exempted based on the limitation period. Commission spokesperson Tikaram Pokharel informed.

He said that he had written to the committee not to proceed with the process of amending the Act so that the immunity would be based on the time limit. "This commission has drawn serious attention to the amendment proposal made in the bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, which states that a case must be prosecuted within five years from the date of knowing that such an act has been committed", the letter said, "corruption is a serious crime regardless of the period of and because of the limitation period in such matters, the possibility of the perpetrators of corruption-related offenses to get immunity will increase as well as hinder the enjoyment of good governance and human rights, therefore, the Commission requests the committee not to proceed with the law amendment process so that the person who commits corruption is exempted based on the limitation period.'
