The task force formed to study the issue of Simaltal bus accident in Chitwan has submitted its report to Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar today.

Taking the first decision after the resumption of office by the Minister of Home Affairs, a working group was formed under the coordination of the joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shabi Rizal, for a detailed study of the Simaltal incident.

While submitting the report, the task force has also given an opinion that the concerned agencies should take initiatives with responsibility for the effective management of reducing road accidents including disaster management.

While understanding the report of the

task force, the home minister expressed concern over the loss of life due to road accidents for a long time.

The Home Minister expressed his commitment to implement the report literally and said that the Ministry will also implement the suggestions given by the working group and also make other agencies to implement them.

'This is a serious and sensitive matter,' said the minister, 'If there is an air accident, commissions and committees would be formed, information about the accident would be investigated.

He said that every effort will be made to reduce road accidents. Understanding the seriousness of the accident that left 62 people missing, he said that he formed a study task force.

Likewise, the task force has concluded that the main cause of the Simaltal accident was the flooding of two buses. Submitting the

report, the coordinator of the task force, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Chabi Rizal, said that when the local municipality was constructing the road at the accident site, the rural road was dug in the steep and hilly areas without proper engineering and design. "It seems that there is a large amount of 'debris' (Gegran flow) at the accident site, the geography there is also weak," said Coordinator Rizal, "It is not seen that a retaining wall has been installed in the said local road construction from the point of view of safety." Although the bodies of 24 passengers lost in the accident have been found, the condition of 40 passengers is still unknown.
