UML has dismissed UML standing committee member Mani Thapa, who has a former Maoist background. He was dismissed by UML saying that he has been inactive in the party for a long time.

"The constitution of the party has a provision to remove him from office if he is absent without notice in three consecutive meetings . As he has been inactive in party work for a long time, he has automatically been relieved of his post,' said Rajendra Gautam, member of the standing committee and head of the publicity department.

The secretariat meeting held on Thursday decided to dismiss Thapa. He became inactive after disagreeing with the actions and ideas of the UML's original leadership (Oli). "Maniji did not work for the party even in the last election," said Gautam, "maybe he is more busy in creating literature."

According to a source close to Thapa, he resigned from the post six months ago. "He resigned six months ago," the source said, "UMA delayed accepting it." Some time ago, Thapa said that he took a break because the political policy taken by UML was not as expected.

He left the party and launched a nationwide public awareness campaign last year. Oli was dissatisfied with Thapa's activities. UML's November 2078 Chitwan convention elected Thapa as a permanent committee member. But then he became inactive in party work. He was completely inactive for the last one year.

UML President KP Sharma 2078 June when Parliament was dissolved, he was the water supply minister . He was relieved of his post with the order of the court. Thapa remained in the UML after the Supreme Court separated UML and Maoists from the unified Nepal Communist Party in February 2077. Expressing dissatisfaction with the working style of Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, he was in UML .

He left the Maoist before he came to the Maoist peace process. During the Maoist armed war, he was responsible for literature and music.

Although discussions have been held with Thapa and Nepal Communist Party General Secretary Nekravitram Chand, they have not joined the party yet.
