Nepali Congress General Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the Constitution will not be amended just because one political party wants it.

Briefly talking to mediapersons at Biratnagar Airport today, General Minister Thapa said that the constitution will not be amended to affect the federal democratic republican system. He said, "The cooperation and support of all political parties is necessary to correct the errors seen during the implementation of the constitution during the ten-year period." General Minister Thapa said that the seven-point agreement reached between the top leaders of Nepal Communist Party (UML) and Nepali Congress will be followed.

He said that the government will be formed under the leadership of UML in the first phase. General Minister Thapa stated that there was a comprehensive discussion in the party's executive committee about the seven-point agreement and the party accepted it and said that no one should take the written agreement lightly.

Central member of Nepali Congress Shashank Koirala said that even if Nepali Congress and CPN-UML form the national government, the opposition should not become weak. He mentioned that if the opposition party is weak, the ruling party can become autocratic and said that the mistakes should be corrected by strictly following the constitution. He said that there will be no amendment in the basic spirit of the constitution.
