The parliamentary committee has instructed the government to submit a proposal with concrete suggestions to solve the problem of water supply and distribution in the Kathmandu valley within twelve months from the Melamchi water supply project.

The meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly held on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Water Supply to come up with a proposal with concrete suggestions to solve the basic problem of water supply and distribution in the Kathmandu Valley from the Melamchi Water Supply Project. In the meeting, the

committee discussed with the secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply and the Ministry of Forestry and Environment and the officials of the related bodies the problems and challenges faced for the distribution and easy supply of drinking water in the Kathmandu Valley. After the

discussion, the committee gave this instruction. The committee has directed the Ministry of Forests and Environment to make immediate necessary amendments to the necessary issues including royalties mentioned in the schedule of the regulations related to the park for the safe supply of water within the Shivpuri Nagarjuna National Park area . Similarly, the attention of the Ministry of Forests and Environment has also been drawn to facilitate completion of the EIA process for water supply.

Informing about the decision of the meeting, Deputy Secretary of Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee Laxman Aryal said - 'For the supply of water within the Shivpuri Nagarjuna National Park area, which is a local auxiliary source for managing clean drinking water in the Kathmandu Valley, regarding the royalties and other necessary matters mentioned in the schedule of the regulations related to the park. It has been decided to draw the attention of the Ministry of Forests and Environment to make the necessary amendments and facilitate the completion of the EIA process.

Likewise, he said that he has decided to instruct the committee to present a proposal with concrete suggestions for the solution of the basic problems of water supply and distribution in the Kathmandu Valley within twelve months from the Melamchi Water Project.
