  • Dahal's separate meeting with President, Prime Minister and Minister Jaishankar

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that he feels India's confidence in Nepal has increased. Dahal says that despite the changes in Nepal's internal political equation, India is beginning to believe that there will be no change in its relations with it.

He came to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed this opinion while talking to a Nepali journalist in New Delhi on Monday morning.

Dahal left the alliance with the Congress last February and entered into a new power alliance with the UML. Dahal said that during the visit, the new alliance also conveyed the message that it wants to have the same relationship with India. Dahal's visit is seen as an attempt to allay suspicions that India is not comfortable with the Left alliance. He said that what happens in internal politics does not make any difference in Nepal-India relationship and it should not.

I clearly told the Indian leaders when the equation that we are in now is being formed, the equation is manipulated due to internal politics. However, it does not make any difference in foreign policy or relations with India," he said, adding that bilateral relations should be strengthened. Financial matters should be discussed together. I said that mutual cooperation should be increased.

He said that some leaders and agencies in India make the impression that the Nepal-India relationship will also go down with the change of political equation in Nepal, which is wrong. "I think they have seen that Nepal is in a consistent policy," Dahal said, "I feel like there is a little confidence now that there will be a difference in Nepal's policy with the neighborhood or policy with India, no matter what the equation is."

Prime Minister Dahal had a bilateral meeting with the newly appointed Prime Minister Modi for the third term on Sunday. "I feel that Indian leaders are becoming positive about the need to help Nepal, strengthen relations, and how to reduce Nepal's trade deficit," Prime Minister Dahal said, "I have found a positive environment." There is no problem on the part of Nepal regarding increasing mutual cooperation.' In the

meeting, Dahal said that he got a chance to talk about some hot issues between Nepal and India during the meeting with Modi. He said that his emphasis is mainly on speeding up the implementation of agreements and understandings reached when he visited India last year. He said that Modi is also positive about it.

Dahal said that he also talked about activating the bilateral mechanisms between Nepal and India. "I requested that all the mechanisms of border, trade and transit should be activated to speed up the talks and dialogue," Dahal said. Dahal said that the talks were held from the point of view that it would benefit both countries to complete the project by expediting Pancheswar. Dahal also mentioned that he discussed with Modi how to learn from India to increase agricultural production in Nepal and how to send Nepalese products to India.

Similarly, a few hours before S. became the foreign minister. Jaishankar reached Dahal's hotel Taj Palace on Monday afternoon to meet him. Dr. Surendra Thapa, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Nepali Embassy in Delhi, said that Jaishankar has expressed his commitment that the new government will give more importance to the relationship with Nepal and that the existing issues will be moved forward.

The prime minister raised issues such as the need to speed up the Pancheshwar project, Nepal's need to get an air route, and find a solution to the disputed issues by activating the bilateral mechanism and increasing the dialogue. According to sources, there was also a discussion between Dahal and Jayanshakar about the need to activate SAARC. Before that, on Monday morning, Dahal also had a courtesy meeting with Indian President Draupadi Murmu.
