CPN (UML) has objected to the decision of the Kathmandu Metropolis to leave 20 meters on the right and left of the river within the Kathmandu Metropolis.

The UML Kathmandu District Committee held a press conference on Sunday and objected to the notice regarding not allowing the construction of buildings on the land in addition to the distance of 20 meters beyond the specified distance from the side of the river measured from the map of the metropolitan area as per the decision of the chief level of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

UML's Kathmandu district in-charge and former minister Anand Prasad Pokharel said that 80,000 households were affected by the decision to leave 20 meters left and right of the river within the metropolis. He demanded that the decision should be withdrawn immediately.

UML Kathmandu District Committee President Deepak Niraula demanded the withdrawal of the decision as 80,000 households will be affected by the decision of the metropolis and the property rights of citizens will also be curtailed by the decision of the metropolis.

Similarly, District Committee Secretary Rajesh Shakya objected to the fact that Kathmandu Metropolis had published a notice without a plan and direct instructions and said that the decision was not acceptable. UML has put forward a seven-point demand asking the city to cancel the notification. In the demand, the notification issued by the head of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City should be immediately revoked, the necessary legal process should be adopted for immediate judicial review of the judgment by the Supreme Court, and the practice of influencing the people living near the borders of the public land, including the roadsides, river valleys and Rajkulo, should be ended.

Similarly, there should be an end to attacks and interference on the private property of individuals apart from the law and mutual consent, there should be an arrangement to create and implement a law related to standards with a scientific basis to end the situation of government change and certain individuals setting standards, and regulations on real estate required by the government for public purposes. There is a demand that the law with the provision for acquisition at a rate should be implemented immediately and arrangements should be made to stop the discharge of untreated waste products including sewage directly into the rivers and streams.
