Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality-5 Lagankhel Nhun Pond has not been properly protected. Although the Metropolitan Municipality has taken initiatives to restore and protect the historical heritage, some of the heritages here have not yet been managed.
After the local level elections of 2074, the rice pond was cleaned at the initiative of the people's representative of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality-5. In the year 2076, the master plan for the conservation of the pond was prepared, but the work has not been completed due to lack of budget. Ward Chairman of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-5 Bikasman Shrestha said that the work of protecting the rice pond has been started.
He said, 'An initiative is being taken by the ward to protect the historical pond. Conservation work should be accelerated, but there has been a delay due to technical reasons.' Rajbhai Deula, a resident of Lagankhel, says that the beauty of Lagankhel will increase if the Nhun Pond of the Malla period is preserved.
He said, 'When we were children, we used to play by the side of the rice pond. The pond was dry for many years. Even though the water has been filled up on the initiative of the locals, it has not been protected. The metropolis should pay attention to protecting the pond as soon as possible.' Currently there is waste water in that pond. Grass has grown in the premises. The pond is fenced.
