  • The provincial and local levels will assist the traffic police in purchasing the necessary equipment

All provinces are ready to use the national identity card as an alternative to the driver's license. For that, the ministries under the province have decided to support the purchase of the necessary equipment for the traffic police.

On Friday, a discussion was held at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in the presence of the transport ministers and secretaries of all the seven provinces. A discussion was held on the need to link the license with the national identity card. Local people also participated in the discussion.

The government is preparing to make national identity card mandatory instead of license. For that, the traffic police will find out whether or not they have a vehicle license through a special device based on the driver's national identity card or number. The traffic management department has said that this rule will be implemented as soon as the device is available to the traffic police.

Director General of the department Uddhav Prasad Rizal said that this rule will be implemented after all the procedures are completed and mobile devices are provided to the traffic police. "Provincials are positive about buying devices," he said, "provincial ministers and secretaries have shown interest in implementing this rule." Preparations have been made to make arrangements for mobile devices to be purchased by any agency and provided to the traffic police. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on Wednesday between the National Identity Card and Registration Department and the Department of Transport Management regarding the implementation of this rule.

In the same discussion, daily service delivery work such as correcting and updating driver's license details will be done by provincial offices, and for this reason, the department will continue to provide technical facilitation in the work of 'customization access' in the software.

Similarly, it has been decided to provide receipts issued by the transportation offices under the province by classifying them as cards on hard paper and providing receipts with QR codes and photos printed on them.

It has been decided that the provincial government will implement the 'queue management system' within three months to manage the crowd in service delivery including taking the written test, taking the practical test, and collecting revenue.

Ministers of all seven provinces were present at the meeting of the thematic committee between union, state and local level about facilitating transport management and service delivery and future plans organized by the Ministry of Physical Education.

Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province Lilabalbh Adhikari, Minister of Labor and Transport of Madhes Province Kaushal Kishore Rai, Minister of Labour, Employment and Transport of Wagmati Province Prembhakt Maharjan, Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport of Gandaki Province Rajeev Gurung, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Transport of Lumbini Province Prachanda Bikram Neupane, Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development of Karnali Province Sher Bahadur Budha and Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development of Far West Province Surendra Bahadur Pal were present.
