The Press Council of Nepal has taken action against 31 YouTube channel operators (individuals/companies) for transmitting content against the journalistic code of conduct in the last 15 days.

The council issued a statement on Tuesday and said that action has been taken against both those who are registered/listed as media and those who are not. Although not registered, the council has informed that action has been taken against those YouTube channel operators who spread conflict in the style of news, character assassination and one-sided accusations. The Council has instructed the three YouTube channels listed under

media to remove and edit the parts that are considered against the code of conduct, suspend the content and submit an explanation within 24 hours and immediately remove the obscene content. The instruction has been given to HelloTV Nepal Facebook page, PNP Media and Citizen Paper YouTube channel. It is stated in the statement that the Council has initiated action against such YouTube channel owners who are giving misleading, unlimited, obscene content with titles that promote violence, terror, baseless, rumours, exaggerated thumbnails. According to the Council, correspondence has been sent to Nepal Police (Cyber ​​Bureau) to immediately remove such content and to investigate and take further action against 28 YouTube channels that are not related to

media but transmit obscene content in the style of the media. In the last fiscal year, the council took action against 43 different social media users.

'Press Council Nepal has recently been monitoring the content communicated through social networks, especially YouTube channels, which are not affiliated with any media,' the release said, 'Communicating content that promotes conflict, using abusive language, inciting violence, terror. The attention of Press Council Nepal has been drawn to the fact that content is being disseminated in an exaggerated manner with the aim of unnaturally increasing the viewership without factual confirmation.
