Khumbu Passanglhamu Rural Municipality-5 of Solukhumbu, two ice dams in the Khumbu area above Thame village have been confirmed to have flooded the Thame River on Friday.

When a team of security officers led by Defense Minister Manvir Rai inspected the flood-affected area from a helicopter on Saturday morning, it was found that two out of the five glaciers above the dam had burst and flooded.

According to Solukhumbu Chief District Officer Devi Pandey, two of the five snow lakes above the village have burst and flooded. It has been found that two other glaciers are at risk of bursting . Chief District Officer Pandey informed that one snow lake is safe.

There is a risk that two more lakes may burst, Prajia Pandey said that Thame River and the residents of the area have been asked to be cautious.

Minister Rai, elected from Solukhumbu, reached the Khumbu area for inspection on Saturday along with Chief Executive Officer of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Anil Pokharel.

On Friday afternoon, 20 houses and hotel lodges, a health post and a school in Thame were washed away due to the flood in Thame river. The flood has completely damaged the power house of the local electricity project, while Khumbu Pasanglhamu-3 has cut about 200 meters of footpath from Phakding to Namche Jame area.
