Pre-exposure phylaxis (PREP) service targeting those at risk of HIV infection has also been started in Sunsari. Last week, this service was also started in Palpa for the first time in Nepal. It has been implemented in two districts of Nepal namely Palpa and Sunsari under the project of International Organization of Nepal Family Planning Associations (IPPF).

This project has been started through the district branch of Nepal Family Planning Association. The service has been started here through the clinic of the union's office in Itahari. Itahari head of the association Ranu Raut said that residents of Sunsari and neighboring districts will benefit from this service. According to Raut, this treatment service aimed at people who are not infected with HIV but are at high risk will benefit.

Raut said that this service introduced by the World Health Organization will also benefit workers who are at risk of returning from overseas employment. According to Raut, sexual partners of people who are infected with HIV and taking ART services will benefit the most.

Apart from this, gay men and women will also get benefits. Prep services can also be provided to sex workers, women or men. Head of Health Office Sunsari, Sagar Prasai, said that this service, which has been started to save people from HIV infection by focusing on injecting drug users and sex patients in the society, is believed to be effective.

10 medical officers and community volunteers have been appointed to provide this service. Prep treatment is a method of treatment based on symptoms before an illness occurs. It is said that this daily service will be done with complete confidentiality.

Prep is an oral medicine, so one pill should be taken daily and since it is only for protection against HIV infection, condoms should be used to prevent other sexually transmitted diseases, said Raut, head of the office .
