Kathmandu University is going to start a special research on cancer. The Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC) located in the university has advanced the action plan to start a specialized service for early detection, treatment and research of cancer.

Senior hematologist and cancer specialist Dr. Ajay Kumar Jha has been given the responsibility of Chairman of Anko Hematology and the university has started the research work.

With the help of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the university will provide the necessary manpower, modern technology and facilities for the treatment of blood cancer from the health laboratory of the center established at Kathmandu University. "Now a comprehensive study will be done on how to treat cancer in the community," said Dr. Jha said, "NTIC has brought modern technology so that all types of cancer detection tests can be done in Nepal."

According to him, most of the cancer samples from Nepal have been sent abroad for disease identification in other countries. "It takes three to four weeks for the report of the samples sent abroad to be tested," he said.

Although the physical structure is complete, the plan to start the health service after some procedural arrangements was made by Prof. Dr. Rajendra Gyawali, acting director of NTIC. Now the university is ready to provide the services of such serious diseases needed by the community. Bhola Thapa said.
