Water supply minister Pradeep Yadav has instructed Kathmandu residents to distribute Melamchi water through alternative means until it is available. While inspecting the Melamchi tunnel outlet at Sundari Jal on Saturday, he gave instructions to manage water from other sources in case water cannot be brought from Melamchi during the rainy season.

Minister Yadav requested to provide clean, pure and clean water for the people of Kathmandu for twelve months . He said, 'Water is the most important thing in human life, do whatever is necessary to distribute clean, pure and clean water in Kathmandu throughout the year, I will arrange budget, modern equipment and manpower from the ministry.'

Minister Yadav mentioned that people's life is becoming difficult due to lack of water in Kathmandu and directed to supply water using alternative sources. He asked to treat the Bagmati river water and underground water and arrange distribution.

Minister Yadav also announced plans to establish modern water treatment centers in Kathmandu, repair and rebuild old pipelines, and monitor water distribution through a digital system. He said, 'We will monitor water distribution through a digital system to make water distribution effective and satisfy the people.'

Minister Yadav expressed his concern about the water problem not only in Kathmandu but also in other parts of the country, especially in Terai-Madhes. He informed that he is also working to solve the problem caused by drying up of chapakal (hand pump) in Madhes. He said, 'Once upon a time, digging 80 feet in the Terai-Madhes area would bring water, but now even digging 400 feet, water is not coming, the problem is serious, we are working to solve it.'

Minister Yadav inspected Melamchi water treatment center along with Melamchi tunnel outlet, water system coming from Bagmati to the treatment center, water treatment lab, supervision control and data acquisition center.
