Bhumika Subba (Nembang), a permanent resident of Phidim Municipality-1 in Panchthar, has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from the CPN-UML. Elected through the proportional representation system, she has been active in the music and song campaign since 2039.

Born on Baisakh 4, 2027, in Gauradaha, Jhapa, she joined the Mechi cultural family at the age of 11 and started dancing. Bhumika has been continuously involved in progressive cultural campaigns since 2039 and has integrated herself into the democratic cultural movement. Initially focused on dancing, she gradually turned to singing and by the time she reached the people's movement of 2046, she had established herself as a strong voice of the cultural movement.

Her organizational journey began in 2042 as a member of the Progressive Artists Forum. She became a member of the Non-profit Organization in 2046 and rose to the position of central member of the People's Cultural Forum in 2061.

She became a central member of the National People's Cultural Federation Nepal in 2065, became the treasurer and Gandaki Province in-charge in 2069, and the central vice-president and Province 1 in-charge in 2078. She is currently the central president of the National People's Cultural Federation.

She has experience in serving as a central member of the Youth Association Nepal, a member of the Panchthar-Kathmandu Contact Forum, the head of the cultural department and vice-president, and even as an advisor. She is currently also working as a member of the UML Koshi Province Committee.

She married the then MP Basant Kumar Nembang in 2049 BS and established herself as a member of the House of Representatives while continuing her social, political, and cultural campaign along with her home life. Her husband Basant Kumar Nembang, who was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Panchthar continuously from 2048 to 2079 BS, has been ill since Magh 2080 BS.
After her husband fell ill, she became a central member of the UML's central general convention held last November, taking care of him and taking care of the kitchen.

She was also active in campaigning while managing family responsibilities in the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21. She has now been recommended as a federal MP through the proportional list from the UML. In the 2040s, she actively participated in the Mechi Jana Sanskrit Abhiyan, Kathmandu Jana Sanskrit Parivar, Siraha Jana Sangeet Manch and the Koshi Zone cultural campaigns.

She continued to contribute through songs and music to the social and political movements in favor of change through the 2046 People's Movement and the 2048 general elections. There is a record that at one time she even led the Mechi-Mahakali National Cultural Campaign.

In the 2050s, folk songs like ‘Aan Dashain Aan Tihar’, ‘Malingo Sai Sai’ and modern songs like ‘Bhumika’ and ‘Sangini’ in Teej Bhaka recorded on Radio Nepal were popular.

She also lent her voice to songs like ‘Hamro Swarharu’, ‘Ganatantra Laana’, ‘Bhedetar Sarar’, ‘Naroye Aama’ and others during the 2062-063 people’s movement. Along with singing, she was also active in songwriting. Songs like ‘Desh Jalda’, ‘Jhulkyo Gham’, ‘Mechi-Koshi-Mahakali’, ‘Hiunchuliko Hiun Khele’, ‘Janmeko Atchiin Hurkeko Atchiin’ that she wrote became popular among the audience at one time.

She has also lent her voice to public awareness songs of the Ministry of Education and Sports. She has presented Nepali cultural identity at the international level by giving more than a hundred performances in stages ranging from Nepal, India and Hong Kong.

She has completed her master's degree in sociology/anthropology from Padmakanya Multiple Campus under Tribhuvan University. She is currently in the process of pursuing her doctorate. After completing her SLC from Janata Secondary School Gauradaha and her Proficiency Certificate from Mahendra Morang Campus, she went to Kathmandu for her bachelor's and master's studies. Bhumika has also taken on social and professional responsibilities. She has experience working as a program officer in the Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations.

Similarly, she has experience working in the Adivasi Utthan Kendra and human rights organizations. She worked as a member of the Film Censor Board from 2070 to 2072. She is also the founding president of an organization called 'Samriddha Panchthar', which is involved in the social sector through the Lions Club. The journey of Bhumika, which started as a child artist, has now reached the Parliament.

‘First, I tried to become a mirror of society through songs and music, now I am taking steps in parliamentary practice. I will continue to work there to fulfill the basic needs of citizens along with policy formulation. I have been resonating from the streets for almost four decades as the voice of the voiceless, now I plan to become a charioteer of change by presenting the experiences I saw and experienced during that time in Parliament,’ she said.
