In 2032, at the age of 18, he was appointed as a primary school teacher in 2033 Baisakh 11, receiving a monthly salary of Rs. 135 from Jumla. He became the principal of the school in 2040 and became Janata Primary School in 2048. Dhan Bahadur Batala, former principal of Shanti Secondary School, Malkot, says that he worked for the construction of the school's physical infrastructure and quality education because he was a good facilitator while at school. 'He is known in the district as a friendly and honest social worker. We are happy that old leaders are being honored because he is constantly involved in politics and social service,' Batala said.
Kali Bahadur, who became the founding president of the Nepal Teachers' Association Kalikot in 2048, received the Education Award twice, in 2038 and 2049. He was a founding member of Tadi, the first Tilakarnali Multiple Campus in Kalikot, and twice became a member of the District Education Committee.
He is the founding president of Rural Development and Environment Forum (VDCEF) Nepal, registered in the Kalikot District Administration in 2050. He is also the founding president of the Sahakari Karnali Yayatat Businessmen's Association. He became the minister of the Red Cross Kalikot in 2060 and was the district president from 2063 to 2067. During the Sahakari's tenure, the Red Cross in Kalikot started community development work including ambulance operation, disaster management, drinking water, school buildings, irrigation canals, and road construction.
He was elected secretary at the Congress Kalikot convention held in Asoj 2053. In 2055, he contested for the Kalikot JVS president and was defeated by the RPP and UML alliance by 6 votes. Sahakari, who was the president of the Congress Kalikot from 2058 to 2072, sided with Deuba during the Congress split. Sahakari, who became the proposer of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba in the 12th general convention, is currently siding with Gagan Thapa.
Sahakari, who was recommended for MP from Kalikot in the mid-term elections of 2051, the general elections of 2056, the first Constituent Assembly elections of 2064 and the second Constituent Assembly elections of 2070, was defeated by a margin of 2,500 votes in the 2074 provincial assembly by Mahendra Bahadur Shahi of the UML-Maoist alliance. He says that the party has done justice this time. 'If you keep trying, you will get opportunities.' He has felt that loyalty, patience and honesty are appreciated in politics,' said Sahakari.
He plans to play a role in formulating a Karnali-friendly policy by reaching the parliament, the highest place of policy-making. 'Karnali can be made a tourism hub with water, forests and herbs.' I will raise my voice on this issue in Parliament,' he said, 'Since Karnali is also lagging behind in the field of infrastructure including roads, I will advocate for that.'
