On Monday, at around 3 o'clock Maya Tamang's mobile received a call from her husband Dilnarayan Tamang. But a nurse from Everest Hospital spoke on the phone. "Who are you from Dilnarayan Tamang?" Maya revealed the relationship after the nurse asked.
"Ah, your husband is now in Everest Hospital, Baneshwar, you should come immediately," said the nurse suddenly, Maya's heart melted. At that time she was working as a cleaner in an office in Patan. She rushed to the hospital.
It was not easy for him to reach Baneshwar from Patan due to Gen-G movement. The means of transport were at a standstill due to the curfew. She ran over. Maya, who reached the hospital crying that she only suffered minor injuries, had to listen to what she thought was not going to happen.
She rushed to where her husband was. Her husband's bloodied body was lying in front of her. She fell off a cliff. No words came out. She just kept wiping tears from her eyes.
The Tamang couple had learned about Jen-G's movement the previous day through social media. Dilnarayan used to do house building work (labour). He was in the room that day as he was not working at the moment. They used to worry about the country, wish to see changes in the country, think that the face of the country should be changed.
This thought of her was making Maya worried. When the Gen-G movement started raging in Baneshwar, she called her husband around 12 noon and said, 'Don't go anywhere, the movement is raging, the children are small, stay in the room.' "According to the neighbors, he used to stay in the room till 2 o'clock, I didn't know what time he left," she said, "I didn't listen to him even when I reminded him, maybe he couldn't be stopped by his love for the country."
'Lately, he used to worry a lot about the situation in the country, he used to watch more news about such topics,' Maya said, 'He used to make tiktaks only about the same topics, when he reminded us that he should think not only about the country, but also about himself and his family, he would always say that he should do something for the country, change things, he was ready to die for the country, he was ready to put a bullet in his chest.' "The doctors said that the bullet fired by the police passed through the left groin and entered the chest. According to the doctor, the bullet hit the chest," she said.
Maya said that Dilnarayan's body is now kept at the teaching hospital in Maharajganj. She believes that the government should declare martyrs for those who shed blood for the country after taking a bullet in their chest. She said that the body will be recognized only after the government declares the martyr and arranges for compensation.
42-year-old Dilnarayan and 44-year-old Maya have been camping in Patan, Lalitpur for 10 years. They have two sons aged 15 and 13. When he was not working in the city, he used to go to Dilnarayan village (Temal Rural Municipality-7, Kaldhara, Kavre) and help his 65-year-old father (Gyan Bahadur) and 64-year-old mother (Chinimaya) in farming. Being the eldest son, the responsibility of the household was on him.
Dilnarayan has two brothers and one sister. One brother lives in Kathmandu and the other is abroad. Dilnarayan had reached the village only a week before the incident. Bhai Milan (son of the elder father) said that Dai, who wanted to see change in the country, took a shot in the chest for the sake of the country.
He also said that it is expected that the government will appreciate Dai's contribution. According to him, the government should declare those killed in the movement as martyrs and provide compensation.
