The rape and murder of Inisha BK from Surkhet has shocked many. The rape and murder of Nirmala Panta and the perpetrators involved in it have not been identified yet, and Inisha's incident has shocked Nepali society again. Since 2078, 882 rape cases have occurred in Karnali Province alone. Inisha's incident was one of those incidents. But how did this incident happen? What was its background and how should we understand this incident? We have tried to explain it in five questions and answers.

What is the background of Inisha BK?

16-year-old Inisha BK, who lives in Birendranagar-1, was studying in class 11 in the science faculty of the local Usha Kindergarten School. Inisha's father, Indra Bahadur BK, has been working in the Dubai Police for the past 6 years after retiring from the Nepali Army. Inisha was living with her mother and brother in a one-story house in Birendranagar-6. Despite having a house in the village, mother Tila had been living here for five years, hoping that it would be easier for her children to study.  After receiving the news of her daughter's murder, her father Indra Bahadur  has come to Surkhet from Dubai via India .

How did the murder happen after her rape?

It was 6 am on Saturday. Inisha had left home saying that she was going to study tuition. The previous day, she and mother Tila had planned to go to the village in Gurbhakot. Inisha had planned to return in 1-2 hours after studying and go to the village. When her daughter, who had said she would return by 8 pm, did not return by 9 am, Tila called her daughter. But her phone was off. After some time, she received a call from an unknown number—that Inisha was unconscious in the forest of Shaheed Park. When she hurriedly reached Shaheed Park, Inisha's body was naked, bloody, and unconscious. By the time she arrived, the police had also reached the scene. ‘The body was completely covered in blood, her hair was disheveled, and grass was strewn around,’ she said. ‘Since she was naked, her body was covered with a black jacket. I fainted right there without being able to see it.’

Where has the police investigation into the incident reached?

The police were informed about the incident around 9:15 that morning. The police then reached the scene. The police and locals rushed her to the provincial hospital, which is about 10 minutes away. But before treatment could begin, the doctor declared her dead. The initial police investigation has shown that Inisha died after being raped.

The post-mortem report showed that she died due to excessive bleeding due to tearing of the internal and external parts of her genitals, said Dr. Arbin Shakya, Senior Forensic Department Officer at Bheri Hospital Nepalgunj. The post-mortem report submitted to the police by a team of specialist doctors confirmed that Inisha died due to excessive bleeding from a ruptured internal genitalia. Has anyone been arrested in connection with the incident? Police arrested one person from the scene on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Police arrested three more people on Sunday. All three of those arrested on Sunday are minors (under 18 years of age). The family has filed a criminal complaint against the four for manslaughter and rape. According to the police, the 16-year-old teenager who was arrested said that he had had physical contact with the girl during his statement. Why are there protests in Surkhet, Banke, Dang and Kathmandu demanding an impartial investigation into the incident? The victim's family, members of civil society and organizations working for women's rights are continuously protesting, fearing that the police will not conduct an impartial investigation into the incident. The victim's family and various organizations have been protesting, saying that the truth has not been made public even five days after the incident. The victims had demonstrated in Birendranagar on Wednesday. A team including Ama Tila had submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office and District Police Office demanding strict punishment for those involved in the crime. Students of Gyanjyoti Secondary School in Tulsipur have demonstrated demanding justice, saying that BK was raped and murdered. Similarly, the Caste System Abolition Front, Nepal and the Scientific Socialist Organization, Nepal, and the youth of Gurbhakot have demonstrated at the Maitighar Mandal in Kathmandu.
