Janakraj Giri of Nepali Congress has won from Bajura in the election held on Thursday. He defeated Lal Bahadur Thapa of CPN-UML. Giri received 17,173 votes while Thapa received 16,633 votes.

Born on 15 Poush, 2022 in the former Wai VDC of Bajura and the current Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality, Giri became active in Congress politics in 2042. At that time, he participated in the Satyagraha called by the Congress while studying at Kailali Multiple Campus, leading the Nepali Sangh.

After becoming active in party politics, he became a general convention representative in the 8th general convention held in 2048. He became a general committee member in the 9th general convention in 2053. Giri, a graduate of the Nepali Congress, had started his parliamentary journey by winning the 2008 parliamentary election as a Congress candidate from Bajura.

After becoming an MP, he was appointed Assistant Minister for Land Reforms in the Girija Prasad Koirala cabinet in 2008. He had been absent from party politics since 2009. He was elected as a central member at the recently concluded special general convention of the Nepali Congress.
