In Saptari-3, Amarkant Chaudhary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) has defeated Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav by double the votes. Amarkant was elected by getting 32,875 votes.
Chaudhary had previously contested the election for the mayor of Dakneshwari Municipality from the then Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal in the local level elections held in 2079. However, he could get only 1,118 votes. Now he has defeated Upendra by a margin of 17,636 votes.
Amarkant, who became active in politics from the then Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) Nepal in 2074, is the son of the late Chandrakant Chaudhary, who won the House of Representatives from RJP Nepal in 2074. At that time, Amarkant's father Chandrakant had got 22,584 votes.
Amarkant's closest competitor Upendra could not even get 16,000 votes. Upendra got 15,239 votes while Congress' Dinesh Kumar Yadav got 8,428 votes. CPN-UML's Tarakant Chaudhary got 6,715 votes, Janmat Party's Sarendra Prasad Sharma got 2,869 votes, and Nepali Communist Party's Arun Kumar Sah got 1,635 votes.
There are a total of 111,871 voters in this constituency. A total of 74,882 people, including 40,223 women and 34,659 men, cast their votes in this election.
