Mother of martyr Rasik in RSP proportional list

What you should know

Rasik Khatiwada, 23, from Kavre, became a martyr in the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 23. Mother Rachana has been continuously raising her voice for justice for her martyred son till date. From the streets to Singha Durbar and Baluwatar, her footsteps are moving forward in search of justice.

On Tuesday morning, Rachna was busy picking up the phone from relatives and well-wishers. Everyone congratulated her over the phone and said, 'May your sons' dreams come true.'

Rachna was surprised by the sudden congratulatory words. The Rastriya Swatantra Party had included her in the proportional list. She is listed at number nine from the Khas-Arya women's cluster. Sharing her happiness with Kantipur, Rachna said, 'I was both surprised and happy to know the news.'

Immediately after being released on bail in the cooperative fraud case, RSPB President Ravi Lamichhane had reached Babarmahal to meet the martyred families of the Gen-G movement. At that time, he had heard the tragic story of Rasik's mother. 'He also watched my videos. He even cried after listening to me,' Rachna said. After that, the RSPB was in constant contact with her. The issue of including her name in the proportional list was also discussed with her. 'They were asking me for documents, I had sent them,' she said.

Saying that she would use this opportunity to fulfill the dream of the martyr, Rachana said, 'We voted for the old one first, we made them win. They killed our child by making them win. Now I will support the new one. If I reach there, I will be able to say a few words, I will be heard.'

On the morning of Bhadra 23, Rasik had left his food and joined the protest. His mother had been waiting for her son who had gone to the protest in the morning until evening. She was unaware until her daughter, who was in Australia, sent a video of her brother being shot in the evening. As soon as she came to know that her son had been shot, she ran to the hospital crying and pleading. After seeing her son's body at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital the next day, she remained unconscious for a few days.

She still hasn't fully recovered from the shock. Tears keep flowing from her eyes as she talks about her son. Rasik was also preparing to go to Australia. He was learning to work at Sanima Restaurant in Thamel. A few weeks after Rasik's death, it was reported that he had been granted an Australian visa.

Rachana says that if she reaches Parliament, she will seek the value of the tears of mothers like her. 'When I go there, I will raise the same issue that my sons got shot for raising. I will fulfill their dreams,' Rachana said.
