Ravi Lamichhane, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister and Chairman of the National Independent Party, who was arrested for investigation into cooperative fraud and organized crime, will be produced in the Kaski District Court on Sunday. The police are going to present him in court for an extension.

DSP Vasant Kumar Sharma, spokesperson of District Police Office Kaski, said that investigation has been carried forward for additional cases. "We have proceeded with the investigation to take the supplementary case. "They will be taken along with Chabilal Joshi, who was arrested earlier," he said. He informed that Joshi's statement is over. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police arrested Lamichhane from Kathmandu on Friday. He was brought to Pokhara by road on Saturday at 3:00 am.

Earlier, the Kaski police team went to Kathmandu and recorded statements with Joshi on August 8 and with Lamichhane on August 10. Joshi, the former vice president of Gorkha Media, was arrested from Shankhamul in Kathmandu on October 6 after the report of the parliamentary committee. The Kaski District Court has extended 20 days on Friday to investigate against Joshi. 

Earlier, he was detained for 5 days for the first time and 7 days for the second time. Due to the fact that the date of extension was shortened and Dasain was a holiday after that, the court extended the deadline by 20 days with effect from 17 October. Joshi claimed that GB Rai, Lamichhane and others were involved in embezzling money from the cooperative through Gorkha media and claimed that he was innocent. Rai, who has been absconding since last year, is currently in Malaysia, according to the police. 

According to DSP Sharma, 60 people have been made defendants on the charge of embezzling the savings of Pokhara's Suryadarshan Cooperative. Out of them, 7 people were arrested with the permission of the court and 2 people were arrested with urgent arrest warrant. He also informed that 6 people who were arrested and prosecuted are in pre-trial detention. 

On Friday, the court allowed the police to arrest 14 people, including former home minister Lamichhane, in connection with the embezzlement of Suryadarshan Cooperative's savings. After Kaski district judge Krishnajung Shah gave permission to arrest, Kaski police sent a letter to CIB, Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and District Police Complex, Crime Investigation Branch Kathmandu to arrest and produce Lamichhane. 

After the correspondence, the team led by CIB SP Hobindra Bogti took control of Lamichhane from the RASWP office at Vanasthali and brought him to Pokhara. In the arrest warrant issued by the court, it is mentioned that Lamichhane has been requested for an arrest warrant according to Section 9 (3) of the Civil Code of Criminal Procedure, and that there is a reasonable basis and reason to investigate it. 

After bringing Lamichhane to Pokhara, the police initially took him to the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences in Ramghat and handed him over to the Kaski Police only after undergoing a health check-up. Lamichhane was taken to the district police office amid tight security by the police in a white Scorpio vehicle. Kaski police sent a vehicle with security personnel for skirting their border after the supporters of RSVP raised slogans and obstructed the place. 

Along with Lamichhane, a large team from Kathmandu followed his vehicle and reached as far as Pokhara. DP Aryal also came from Kathmandu by Lamichhane's car, while another vice-chairman Swarnim Wagle came to Pokhara by plane on Friday afternoon. When Lamichhane was brought to the police office, a few dozen activists who were present outside raised slogans for about an hour. Wagle, Aryal and Poudel met Lamichhane after Kaski police took over and took custody. 

According to DSP Sharma, Lamichhane has been kept alone in the custody of the district police. He had a meeting with party vice-chairman and MP DP Aryal and others around 9 am on Saturday. "In the morning, he met some dignitaries and family members of his party," he said, "since then he has not met anyone." According to DSP Sharma, former DIG Joshi, who was admitted to the hospital for a few days, has also been kept in custody since Saturday. Both have been detained separately. 

Kamala Kafle, the head of the District Public Prosecutor's Office and the District Attorney, will debate the government issue on Sunday. Private lawyer Yuvraj Parajuli will argue on behalf of the cooperative victims. On Sunday, other lawyers also expressed their willingness to argue on behalf of the victims, said Kiran Shrestha, coordinator of the Suryadarshan Chattapidit Sangharsh Samiti. Lawyers Sushil Pant, Narayan Ghimire and Subhas Acharya will argue from Lamichhane's side. 

Lamichhane is accused of cheating Suryadarshan and other cooperatives. He was also recommended to be investigated by the Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee concluding that he had embezzled cooperative savings. It is alleged that Lamichhane, when he was the then Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, embezzled the cooperative's savings by taking it to the said media. According to the report of the parliamentary committee, at least 655 million 54 million savings of Suryadarshan of Pokhara, Supreme of Butwal, Sahra of Chitwan and Swarnalakshmi Sahakari of Kathmandu, chaired by Gitendrababu (GB) Rai, were brought to Gorkha Media Network, chaired by Rai and Managing Director Lamichhane, and most of the money was spent by Lamichhane himself by cutting checks. is

Lamichhane said that the 'sweat share' he got in the Gorkha media was done by the committee. The conclusion of the committee is that, while buying and selling shares in companies including Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Lamichhane took 15 percent share of Gorkha Media as his investment from Supreme Cooperative of Butwal through Ravi Lamichhane/Roshni Gurung. At the time of his departure from the company, Lamichhane had also submitted a paper with fingerprints to the company registrar's office saying that he had received 18 million rupees for shares. But he accepted these papers as 'fake and pretend' in the press conference.

The Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee formed on May 15 under the coordination of MP Surya Bahadur Thapa directed the government to take action against Gorkha Media Chairman Rai, Former Managing Director Lamichhane, Director Joshi and Kumar Ramtel. The committee had cleared the way to take action against them as per the existing laws saying that offenses related to organized crime, fraud, racketeering and money laundering would be attracted against them.
