Education improves the economy. Along with the use of natural resources, education is needed to protect and enhance them. Now it is only linked to income. Citizens should be made aware that it is their responsibility to protect public property.
Gandaki also has the same problems of education as in other provinces. The condition of Gandaki in terms of literacy, educational quality, enrollment rate, examination results is somewhat better. Now, the Ministry of Education has put forward a blueprint for the implementation of the Compulsory and Free Education Act.
By 2083, we have set the goal of implementing the Act in all seven provinces and 753 municipalities. For that, we should proceed in cooperation with the center, state and local. Gandaki province will also benefit when the
act is implemented. The situation such as students not being able to enroll in school, and not staying in classes even if they are enrolled, will be resolved. The Ministry of Education has taken forward the blueprint by prioritizing the improvement of SEE examination, curriculum revision, construction of disaster-damaged schools, mapping and adjustment of schools.
The School Education Bill is under consideration in the Parliament's Education, Health Committee. The technical education bill is almost finalized and is in the stage of going to the cabinet, while the higher education bill is also in the process of moving through the ministry. As these laws are promulgated, the current problems will be resolved. The situation will be easy for the provinces and municipalities. Each state has its own unique possibilities and opportunities in
education. The characteristics of one province and another are also different. It should be identified first. Along with tourism, Gandaki's potential is natural resource exploitation. There are natural resources such as mountains, lakes, caves, and tourist routes.
How to connect school to higher education with these, requires planning. For example, we have not been able to give knowledge and skills to the people who work in the mountains and lakes. Lake boating skills can be linked to CTEVT towards technical education. The knowledge and skills of mountain climbing and tourist guides should also be coordinated with education. There is also the matter of manpower working in the hotel. Now we have to think about that too.
Prithvi Narayan Campus of Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University and Gandaki University should now start teaching such educational programs and subjects. Some of the courses in the university are related to tourism. But effective implementation has not been done. We say that the potential of Gandaki is tourism. But we are not able to benefit from it.
Now we have introduced the concept of linking the skills learned by children at home to assessment. Similarly, each skill should be incorporated into the curriculum and assessment. Even people who have no knowledge but are good at skills can be given a certificate by taking a skill test. Even if we can only prepare the necessary manpower in tourism, Gandaki can lead to economic prosperity.
Gandaki is also culturally rich. The subject of culture should also be included in the curriculum. The local level can prioritize these subjects by making their own curriculum. The central government is ready to help. Standards can be made. Another aspect is that Gandaki women are more aware and advanced in leadership capacity. Care should be taken to make the curriculum from school to university in such a way that it helps in their empowerment and income generation. Gandaki is also prominent in
folk culture. We are also ahead in baja, sarangi, folk song, dance, dohori, rodi. Why not practice folk songs in Deuda and Gandaki in Far West from school? We have to change our thinking that development is just a way to do it with a dozer.
Education improves the economy. Along with the use of natural resources, education is needed to protect and enhance them. Now it is only linked to income. Citizens should be made aware that it is their responsibility to protect public property. This subject should come along with civic and moral education. Government alone cannot do everything.
What is the common feature across the province? Must be identified. There is a growing tendency among young people to go abroad. An environment should be created for them to return to the provincial and local levels by giving them knowledge and skills. According to what kind of manpower is needed in education from the school level, we need to make a curriculum and conduct teaching. An environment of healthy competition should be created in education as well.
State governments should move forward by mobilizing existing educational institutions (schools to schools and campuses). Provinces are focusing on opening new universities. Gandaki can get many benefits from Trivi, Pokhara and Gandaki University. The Ministry of Education is working to make higher education, foreign colleges and educational consultancies coordinated and effective at the provincial level.
