The cold war between American billionaire Elon Musk and OpenAI has taken another turn. Musk called it a "play on security" after Apple announced at its annual developers conference on Monday that it would be widely incorporating OpenAI's generative intelligence, including ChatGPT, into the company's various platforms and products.

"If Apple puts OpenAI in their devices at the level of the operating system, I will ban Apple devices in my company," Musk said. 

Musk plans to allow people visiting his company to enter Apple devices only after they place them in a secure place called a 'Faraday cage'. However, the controversy with OpenAI is not a new topic for Musk. He has been tinkering with the artificial intelligence platform since 2018. 

Not only OpenAI but also the entire field of artificial intelligence, Musk's opinion is constantly changing. Last year, Musk, along with about 1,000 people in the technology sector, argued that now is not the time for public use of technologies such as OpenAI and that they should be strictly managed. Musk, who said last year that such artificial intelligence platforms could threaten humanity, has launched a company called XAI to compete with OpenAI.

The company's total market value increased by $7 billion to more than $25 billion after the investment campaign a few weeks ago, according to market analysts. He repeatedly demands regulation saying that the current artificial intelligence platform can go out of control

In December 2015, Musk, who co-founded the OpenAI company with 8 other people and companies, including the current OpenAI chief Sam Altman, played a major role in making the company ambitious. OpenAI's blog mentions that Greg and Sam's goal of raising about 100 million dollars in the beginning of the company, established as a non-profit company, is to raise a billion dollars in funds and that Musk has assured that he will play an active role in it.

In 2017, Musk, who claimed control of the board, the position of chief executive and a major shareholding, halted the investment when he saw that this was not possible. Then he tried to connect OpenAI to his company like Tesla. After all these efforts failed, Musk left in early 2018 saying that the company's chances of success were zero. At the same time, Microsoft, which is trying to diversify its investments under the leadership of Satya Nadella, invested billions of dollars in OpenAI.

Some time since then, Musk, who responded that a company like OpenAI cannot run without billions of dollars, has been responding to continuous protests after ChatGPT became public at the end of 2022. In February 2024, he even filed a lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI. In which it is accused of not distributing the profits during the establishment of the company and engaging in a multi-billion dollar business with Microsoft, contrary to the common belief that it will remain free. After the lawsuit was filed, OpenAI released all emails and conversations dating back to 2015 via a blog, calling Musk a hypocrite. The case is currently pending in court. 

Altman, the head of OpenAI, has stated that he is a talented technology producer in response to Musk's continuous attacks, but when he starts to fall from his ground, he does not hesitate to insult competitors or even the organization he opened himself. Altman says that his behavior frustrates him. 

Lately Amazon, Alphabet (Google), Microsoft, Meta (Facebook) and Chinese and European companies are bidding to dominate the generative AI market, which is estimated to be worth billions of dollars in the next few years. In such a situation, Musk does not want to be left behind and his latest attack also gives a glimpse of the same continuity.
