Biratnagar Kings are set to field in the first match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket on Saturday.
Biratnagar captain Sandeep Lamichhane won the toss and invited Sudurpaschim Royals to bat first at the Tribhuvan University Cricket International Ground, Kirtipur. Sudurpaschim has already reached Qualifier 1 by winning its first 6 matches. Sudurpaschim, who lost in the final last season, has been winning consecutive matches this time.
Biratnagar has already secured a place in the playoffs. If the team defeats Sudurpaschim by a large margin, there is a possibility that the team will play Sudurpaschim again in Qualifier 1. Biratnagar will have to win against Sudurpaschim by a large margin to surpass Kathmandu Gorkhas.
Sudurpaschim has made two important changes. The team has fielded Josh Brown and Dhruv Parasar in place of Scott Cugglen and Chris Lynn. Cugglen is the team's main bowler, while Lynn was the player of the match in the previous match against Chitwan Rhinos, scoring an unbeaten 75 runs.
Brown is a regular member of the Sudurpaschim team, but he was not played in the previous match against Chitwan. This is the first match of UAE batter Parashar in the NPL.
Biratnagar has changed four players. Martin Guptill has returned to the team. Guptill, who was injured in the match against Janakpur Bolts, missed the next 3 matches. He will replace Scottish batter George Mansi.
Similarly, Naren Bhatt, Shankar Rana and Surya Tamang have been brought into the team. They will replace Narayan Joshi, Sahil Patel and Subash Bhandari. Shankar, who played for Kathmandu last season, is going to play his first match in the Biratnagar jersey.
