Inspired by American batter Sanjay Krishnamurthy's half-century, Janakpur Bolts managed to score a good total against Sudurpaschim Royal in the second match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket on Saturday.

After new captain Wayne Parnell won the toss, Janakpur, who came in to bat, managed to score 145 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs at the Tribhuvan University Cricket International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur. Janakpur managed to reach this score by adding 78 runs in the last 8 overs.

Krishnamurthy, who led Janakpur's innings at 67-4 in 12 overs, scored 50 runs in 38 balls. He hit 4 fours and 2 sixes. Krishnamurthy had scored 20 runs in the 15th over bowled by Dipendra, including 2 sixes and 1 four. Krishnamurthy and Aditya Mahata added 55 runs for the fifth wicket. Aditya scored 15 runs in 13 balls, including 2 fours.

Avinash Bohara had returned Sudurpaschim to the game by dismissing Krishnamurthy and Shubha Kansakar in consecutive balls in the 18th over. Avinash had given away only 2 runs in that over. Parnell was out for 14 runs in 12 balls. Rupesh Singh remained unbeaten on 1 run.

Avinash took 4 wickets for Sudurpaschim. He spent 30 runs in 4 overs. Another fast bowler Scott Kugglen took 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs and Dipendra took 1 wicket for 30 runs in 3 overs.

Janakpur did not have a good start. Kugglen bowled Asif Sheikh in the first over of the match. He was the one who dismissed Mayan Yadav lbw for 6 runs. Opener Maz Sadakat hit 2 fours in 9 balls and was bowled by Dipendra for 12 runs. Ian Nicole Lofty Eaton scored 39 runs in 33 balls. He also hit 2 fours and a six.

Janakpur is being captained by former South African all-rounder Parnell. Parnell is the first foreign player to captain in the NPL. He was included in the Janakpur team only in the previous match and scored an unbeaten half-century in the match against Pokhara.

Janakpur had lost the first 3 matches and regular captain Anil Sah's poor form also led to Janakpur taking a bold decision. Anil is not even in Janakpur's playing team. Aditya played in his place.

Last year, Janakpur had defeated Sudurpaschim to win the title. But this season, Janakpur's performance has been very poor. The team had kept last season's hero Lahiru Milantha out of the playing team from the previous match.

Asif Sheikh is Janakpur's wicketkeeper-batter marquee player. But Janakpur has not given him a leadership role this time. Last season, when Anil was injured most of the time, Janakpur lifted the title under Asif's captaincy. Janakpur must win the remaining 4 matches to keep its playoff chances alive.

Sudurpaschim is at the top after winning all the first four matches. Sudurpaschim has fielded Milan Bohara in place of Naren Saud.
