Politics requires either legacy or financial power. However, Dr. Pramila Gachhadar, who rose from Koshi Province politics to national politics, is a strong character who challenges this interpretation. She had neither legacy nor financial power. She only had hustle and bustle.

Born in an ordinary family in a village near Biratnagar, Pramila's rise to the highest seat of policymaking, the House of Representatives, is not just a coincidence, but the result of two decades of tireless struggle and academic pursuit.

Until some time ago, she was a member of the Koshi Province Planning Commission. She resigned after the Nepali Congress included her name in the proportional closed list. Pramila's profile has expanded further after she was elected as a proportional member of the House of Representatives.

When Pramila was born on Mangsir 13, 2032, in the small village of Barju in Sunsari, it was not customary to send her daughter to school in rural areas. Moreover, in the indigenous Tharu community, sending her daughter to school was considered a 'crime'.
However, for Pramila, schooling was not complicated. Because she was the daughter of an educated family. Her father, Dukharam Gachhadar, was the principal of Gograh Secondary School in Biratnagar-4. He had an academic environment at home. She started her primary education from the village school. She had a special interest in studies from the time she could read.

After studying up to 5th grade in a basic school in Belganchi, Sunsari, she joined Gograh Secondary School in Biratnagar. After passing her SLC from there, she chose science. She completed her ISC from Birat Science Campus and her B.Sc from Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus. Seeing her dedication to a difficult subject like science, many suggested that she go into the technical field. However, she decided to make her studies multifaceted.

She did her master's degree in two different streams, botany and sociology. She did her degree in botany from Biratnagar's Degree College and in sociology from Patan Multiple Campus. Science taught her to be based on facts and evidence, while sociology helped her understand the structure of society and the suffering of people. In the course of her studies, she completed her PhD in botany from Tribhuvan University last year.

Dr. Pramila's political journey began with the Madhesh movement of 2063. With the political changes after the Madhesh movement, she especially started organizing in the movement for ethnic identity. Her family ties with leader Vijay Kumar Gachhadar initially inspired her to join the then Madhesi People's Rights Forum (Democratic). While working as a central member of the party and vice-president of the sister organization 'Youth Forum', she learned to organize workers by going from village to village. After the forum merged with the Democratic Congress in 2073, she got the opportunity to demonstrate her efficiency by being a general convention representative and in various departments. She is currently the joint general secretary and general committee member of the Nepali Congress Koshi Province.

Due to her balance between politics and academia, the Koshi Province government appointed her as a member of the Provincial Planning Commission on October 10, 2081. She claims that she played an important role in drawing a blueprint for the development of the province, prioritizing the budget, and making long-term plans during her tenure of about 14 months.

When any woman tries to reach leadership, society looks for her 'connections' more than her abilities. Pramila also had to face that accusation. She was also linked to former minister Vijay Kumar Gachhadar by making comments on social media. However, she considers this to be a narrow-minded view of society. She clarifies, 'Just because we are of the same caste does not mean we are related. I have come here through my own upbringing, education and political struggles.' In fact, Vijay Gachhadar is only a classmate of Pramila's parents. They are not even related by family.

After entering Parliament, Dr. Pramila has shouldered a huge responsibility. She has said that she will raise the voices of women and the marginalized in the House along with policy reforms, good governance and corruption control. Now, Dr. Pramila's identity is no longer limited to being a Tharu girl. She has entered Parliament for the first time with the dream of policy reforms.
