Gyanu Poudel of Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 has entered parliament through the proportional cluster of Khas Arya women from the National Independent Party (RIP). Her long-standing experience working in the social sector, the pain of the people and the urge to do something for the country have led her to parliament.
52-year-old Poudel was known as an active social activist before entering politics. She has experience in the fields of cooperatives, entrepreneurship, women's empowerment, children's rights and social justice. She was associated with the Jana Utthan Cooperative Organization operating in Rupandehi and worked for a long time.
She has played a role in improving the economic condition of the community, making women self-reliant and encouraging small enterprises through cooperatives. Her nearly 19 years of cooperative experience also gave her the opportunity to understand the basic aspects of cooperatives. She said that she has worked on the issues of cooperative acts, rules, policy formulation and implementation. She always questioned the implementation of policies and rules. 'We always complained that this and that did not happen, we kept asking, but I came into politics because I wanted to move forward on my own after reaching the policy-making position,' she shared her experience.
She has also gathered experience of seeing many problems at the implementation level in Nepal. She said that she had closely observed the disparity in the services that the state should provide to the citizens. She said that she chose the RSVP and moved forward on her political journey with the aim of filling this gap and building a well-governed state.
She said that the principles, promises and agenda of change of the RSVP attracted her. Explaining the main reason for joining the RSVP, she said, 'While working in the social sector, I saw many problems, and I thought of joining the RSVP after realizing that the solution to those problems is possible only through policies and laws. Because, my thinking and the thinking of the RSVP are exactly in line. This is why I decided to enter politics through this party.' She was not active in any political party before. She also claims that she joined this party due to the desire for change and the need for new thinking seen in Nepal now.
She said that she has seen that society has not been able to move forward in the development of entrepreneurship targeting women and youth. Expressing the view that entrepreneurship should be developed, she said, 'We hear a lot that we should become self-reliant and entrepreneurs, but there is a great lack of the necessary structure, policy and facilitation for that.' She said that she wants to emphasize the formulation of policies to attract youth towards entrepreneurship and create employment.
For Gyanu Poudel, who lives in Lumbini Province, the development of her area is also a priority. Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, has become a center of faith and attraction for people around the world. She said that there is a policy to further highlight this tourist area.
She has expressed concern over the failure of the Gautam Buddha International Airport to become fully operational. Expressing her concern, she said, "This is not just an issue related to the reputation of Lumbini, but the entire country. It is necessary to remove policy and administrative obstacles to bring the airport into operation, for which I will play a role in taking the initiative from Parliament."
After reaching Parliament, she has specifically planned to work on the issues of social justice, service delivery, cooperative reform and agricultural modernization. She says that the responsibility of correcting the distortions and anomalies in the cooperative sector is also on her shoulders.
