Dr. Vikram Timilsina, who ran for the Nuwakot-1 seat from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the House of Representatives election, has won in his first attempt. He has started his journey to the parliament, beating Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat of the Congress, Hit Bahadur Tamang of the NCP, and Badri Mainali of the UML, who have had a long journey in politics.
Timilsina defeated his closest rival, Congress leader and former Finance Minister Dr. Mahat, by a margin of 4,12 votes, paving the way for his entry into the parliament. Timilsina secured 22,609 votes, while his rival Mahat secured 18,597 votes and Tamang secured 13,377 votes.
Born in 2039 BS in the former Chaughada-9 and present Panchakanya Rural Municipality-1 of Nuwakot, Timilsina belongs to a normal family. None of his family members are associated with politics. However, he was interested in politics since school. This political consciousness from childhood has taken him to Parliament.
He completed his school education from his village and completed his master's degree in humanities and sociology from Tribhuvan University. He then completed his PhD in politics and international relations from Griffith University in Australia.
He returned to Nepal about 3 and a half years after completing his PhD. In 2080, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and was a member of the party's central international department. This was his first step in politics.
Timilsina emphasized policy making and accountability rather than slogans in his election campaign. He believes that politics should be made a means of bearing responsibility towards citizens and the people, not a means of accumulating power. He said, 'The commitments made in the election campaign will be my guide.' He also said that he took his victory and responsibility as a daily test.
He has extensive experience in radio journalism as well as research, teaching and policy debate. He said that he will utilize this experience in lawmaking and parliamentary processes. He was associated with Radio Sagarmatha from 2060 to 2070. He is also active in literary activities. He has also published a collection of ghazals, Aliali Chota Deu.... Apart from this, Timilsina said that many other poems have been published.
Timilsina, who developed political awareness since school, played an active role as a conscious citizen in the 2062/ 063 people's movement.
