”I have been sent with a big responsibility. I will fulfill my responsibility after I go to Parliament,” she said immediately after being elected.

Sobita Gautam, who won from Kathmandu in the 2079 House of Representatives elections, is now running as a candidate in Chitwan-3. Although she married businessman Grihendra Ghimire, whose ancestral home is Gopalchowk, Mangalpur, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15, few people knew Sobita as a Chitwan resident.
So, immediately after registering her candidacy, why did she come to Chitwan? She had to face the question. During the election campaign, she also started asking for votes saying, 'My home is in this Gopalchowk.' When the election results came in, Sobita succeeded in becoming an MP with a huge majority.
The NCP had nominated Renu Dahal as its candidate in Chitwan-3. Renu had become a talk of the town not only in Chitwan but also across the country as the mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City in the 2074 and 2079 BS local elections. Renu, who resigned from her post with 15 months of her term as mayor remaining, was seen by many as a future MP. But when the final results came in, only 20,615 votes were cast in Renu's favor. The winner Sobita got 38,662 more votes than her nearest competitor, Renu. Sobita was elected with 59,277 votes.
Born in Ashar, 2052 BS, Sobita has a bachelor's degree in law. She had gone to the voters saying that her education and experience would be suitable for this position as it is a place where MPs make policy and rules. After the results were announced, her closest competitor Renu Dahal congratulated Sobita and wrote on social media, ‘Even though I was winning hearts with my work, I could not win votes. I would like to congratulate Sobita who won the votes.’
Sobita married Grihendra Ghimire in Jestha 2080 BS. ‘Everyone is happy with Buhari’s victory. I am confident that she will win the hearts of the voters by working accordingly. Because she played a good role in the parliament last time. Voters trusted her for that reason. She voted very well,’ said Grihendra’s father Chet Narayan Ghimire, who was met at the Rampur Agriculture and Forestry University, the counting site, while expressing happiness over Buhari’s victory. While running as a candidate in Chitwan-3, Sobita had said that she stood up according to the party’s strategic plan to go strong in all three constituencies of the district.
In the 2079 election for the House of Representatives, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) won in constituencies 1 and 2 out of three constituencies in Chitwan. At that time, the RSSS came in third place in constituency 3. But it was in first place in proportional representation. Suman Subedi, a young farmer from Shukranagar, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-25, was a supporter of the then Maoist Party in the past. But in this election, he openly supported Sobita. Suman had said that he changed his mind because he saw in the RSSS the basis for fulfilling what the country wanted after the Gen-G movement.
He had said that since the constitution had to be amended to include the demands of Gen-G and that a two-thirds vote was required in parliament for the RSSS to become such a force, he had supported the RSSSS in this election. ‘I understand that Sobita Gautam is also a good leader personally. I have seen her speak in parliament before. She is young and can speak clearly. She is clear about what the MPs will do,’ said Subedi. Along with the heavy vote, voters have also given Sovita a heavy burden of responsibility. Sovita claims that she will rise to the occasion.
‘When I was running for this seat in this election, I put forward my views, I listened to theirs. After listening to everything, I think they made their choice based on their own considerations. They have given me a big responsibility. I will fulfill my responsibility after I go to parliament,’ she said immediately after being elected.
