Rabi Lamichhane, the central president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP), has been elected as a member of parliament from Chitwan-2. Lamichhane has won consecutively in three elections, including one by-election, held in Chitwan-2, three and a half years apart.

Kathmandu's Lamichhane has a special connection with Chitwan after a tragic incident in Narayangadh in Shrawan 2076 BS. After Lamichhane was arrested on charges of abetting the suicide of journalist Shalikram Pudasaini, his supporters continued to protest day after day in Bharatpur. Based on the video message left by Pudasaini, a case was filed against Ravi Lamichhane and three others in the Chitwan District Court for abetting suicide.

On Shrawan 30, Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu and brought to Chitwan. Protests began in Chitwan the next day. Supporters continued to protest until a case was filed against him and he was released on bail. On Bhadra 9, after a case was filed against him, all three including Lamichhane were released on bail.

Ravi's supporters, who had been protesting day after day until that day, held a large rally on the banks of the Narayani River the next day on Bhadra 10. Perhaps this rally must have increased Ravi's will to enter politics. All three, including Ravi Lamichhane, were acquitted in the suicide abetment case on Magh 5, 2076 BS. On Asad 7, 2079 BS, he announced a new party, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Kathmandu.

Lamichhane, who made his parliamentary journey in the 2079 BS election for the post of member of the House of Representatives, continues his victorious journey. According to the final results of Chitwan-2 announced on Saturday morning, Lamichhane won by getting 54,402 votes. His nearest competitor, Meena Kharel of the Congress, got 14,564 votes. UML's Asmin Ghimire got 6,992 votes and NCP's Pratap Gurung got 4,969 votes.

Lamichhane had secured 49,300 votes in the election held in Mangsir, 2079. At that time, Lamichhane was elected as an MP with about 59 percent of the votes cast in Chitwan-2.

After being elected as an MP, Lamichhane also became the Home Minister. But a dispute arose regarding his citizenship. Lamichhane had gone to America in the meantime and obtained his citizenship there. The dispute reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled that he was disqualified from becoming an MP on Magh 13, 2079, saying that he had not completed the process of regaining Nepali citizenship. Then, a by-election was held in Chitwan-2 in Baisakh, 2080. After completing the process and regaining Nepali citizenship, Lamichhane also became a candidate in the by-election. Lamichhane won the by-election with a wider margin than before. He received 54,176 votes. Lamichhane's closest competitor, Congress's Jit Narayan Shrestha, got 11,214 votes and UML candidate Ram Prasad Neupane got 10,936 votes.

In the 2079 BS Mangsir parliamentary election, Lamichhane's competitor, Congress's Umesh Shrestha, got 14,983 votes. UML's Krishna Bhakta Pokharel, who was a candidate from Chitwan-2 and won the 2070 BS Constituent Assembly member election and the 2074 BS House of Representatives member election, came in third place in the 2079 BS parliamentary election. He received 14,647 votes. Lamichhane, who has been widening the margin of votes and increasing the number of votes since the first election, continued that trend this time too.

After being elected as an MP for the second time, Lamichhane became the Home Minister. Lamichhane was investigated for cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering and a case was filed in court. Lamichhane's MP post was suspended in Poush 2081 BS after the money laundering case was filed. Cases including cooperative fraud are pending against Lamichhane in 5 district courts.

Born on Bhadra 28, 2032 BS, Lamichhane had been involved in media work since the 1950s. In the meantime, he went to America. After returning to Nepal, he started hosting television programs again. After the 2079 BS local elections, he left his decades-long old work and entered politics. Lamichhane, who gained popularity by hosting a television program called 'Sidha Kura Janata', started 'Galaxy 4K' TV with GB Rai and others. He became popular in media work and entered politics.
