The Election Commission has urged House of Representatives candidates not to delay opening bank accounts.

In a regular press conference held on Friday, the commission warned the remaining candidates to open accounts immediately as all election campaign expenses should be from the same account.

The commission's assistant spokesperson Sita Pun Sris said that it was seen that the candidates may find it difficult to open the account due to the public holiday and they were warned not to delay it. She said that the commission has also asked banks to facilitate the opening of accounts for candidates.

In the election code of conduct issued by the Election Commission, in order to make the expenses incurred in the election transparent, candidates must open a bank account and spend from the same account.
