Former Chief Minister of Madhesh Province Satish Kumar Singh, who has been selected by UML as a candidate from Saptari-2 for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 2, has said that he will contest the election from the Swabhiman Party.

He said that his name was selected as a candidate from UML by mistake. ‘They (UML leaders) were asking me to join the party. But when I said I would contest the election from my own party, they agreed,’ said former Chief Minister Singh, ‘The support of UML will remain. After I came to know about the nomination of UML candidate, I also informed the central committee that my name was included in the list by mistake.’

He said that he would contest from Saptari-2 from Swabhiman Party. For that, he said that he was preparing to resign as a member of the Provincial Assembly on Monday. ‘I have taken time with the Speaker tomorrow,’ he said, ‘I will resign tomorrow and start preparing for the election.’

Singh was elected as the chairman of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality from the then Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) in the 2074 local level elections. He won the election in 2074 by getting 2,987 votes, but was defeated in 2079 by getting 3,575 votes when he contested the election for the post of rural municipality chairman from the then Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LOSP).

In the same year, he joined the Janmat Party and became a candidate from Saptari Constituency No. 2, Province Assembly (A). He won by getting 16,734 votes and became the Chief Minister of the Madhesh Province Government.
