All the gates of the barrage have been opened after the flow of water in the Saptakoshi river has increased almost three times the danger level. Due to heavy rains, the flow in the river is increasing at a high rate.
All the gates were opened when the water flow was measured at 4 lakh 31 thousand 525 cusecs at 9 am on Sunday morning. Chief District Officer Tuvraj Pokharel said that all 56 gates of the barrage have been opened.
"As the flow continues to increase, taking into account the risk, movement through the barrage bridge has been prohibited", Chief District Officer Tuvraj Pokharel said. When the flow reaches 150,000 cusecs in the river, red flags and lights are lit on the barrage as a signal of danger.
