Three policemen lost their lives during the demonstration held by Jen-G in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Among them are police sub-inspector Milan Rai and police constable Uttam Thapa of police circle Maharajgunj and assistant constable Amrit Gurung of police division Koteshwar.

 

Assistant Inspector of Police Milan Rai is posted in Ramechhap but he was working in Crime Investigation and Action Branch in Maharajganj Police Circle. On August 24, he was at work in civilian clothes. 

Protesters were beaten up while setting fire to police circle Maharajgunj. He died in the process. The photo video of Milan being dragged on the street and beaten to death with a stick is on social media. 

I called my son Milan at 2 o'clock. He said he was safe, he was sitting inside the shutter,'' said Keshav Rai, Milan's uncle, 'After a while, news came that he was not there.' Her mother, devastated after her father died of blood cancer, died within months. Uncle Keshav took over the parental responsibility. Milan passed SSLC with first class, graduated in management.

Milan was recruited as a Police Assistant Inspector in the year 2074. He got married only a year ago. His wife had come to Japan only 4 months ago to study. Those who know Milan, 30, say he is an honest policeman.

32-year-old police assistant constable Amrit Gurung was attacked by protesters on 25 August while he was on duty at the Koteshwar police station. Even when he tried to escape, he did not escape. He was taken to B&B Hospital at 1:30 pm, who was seriously injured in the beating. The hospital pronounced him dead at 4:45. Kaski was the only son of the Amrit family of Rupa Rural Municipality 5. 

He joined the police service on 15 October 2070. During his service, he arrived in Kathmandu 2 years ago via Palpa, Mugu, Surkhet.  Amrit's mother died of brain hemorrhage only 9 months ago. According to the family members, Amrit was in debt of 2.3 lakhs due to his mother's treatment.

He doesn't even have his own house in his village. He lives in a relative's house. One elder and one sister are married. Now at home there is Baje, father, wife and one year old son.

Police constable Uttam Thapa working in Maharajgunj police circle lost his life in an attack by protesters on 24 August. His brother died just 7 months ago when he fell from a tree while cutting grass.

The mother of two children is now alone in the village. Uttam's father had already died due to diabetes. Uttam's job was running his house. Darchula Lekam Rural Municipality 3, Gumakholi house, Thapa family does not even have land for cultivation.

30-year-old Uttam had been in police service for 9 years. "He kept telling me that he would come home after 4 days," said Suresh Thapa, the president of his ward.
