The opposition suspects that the two-party system and the Constitutional Council are behind the Congress-UML campaign against the Deputy Speaker

What you should know

The ruling parties Congress and UML are making party MPs sign a blank sheet to remove Deputy Speaker Indira Rana. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire and UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bertaula are getting the MPs of their respective parties to sign.

The signatures of MPs are being collected for the implementation of the agreement between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to remove the motion against Rana for unbecoming conduct in the House of Representatives.

MPs from the opposition and the government who support the government have protested that the signatures of MPs of both parties are being collected to remove the Deputy Speaker. The parliamentarians have alleged that behind doing so, the intention is to impose a two-party system and discourage small parties.

MPs raised their voices in the Wednesday meeting of the House of Representatives where the ruling party Congress and UML are campaigning to remove Deputy Speaker Indira Rana. During the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, during the emergency time and zero time, opposition and ruling MPs criticized the signature campaign being run by Congress and UML to remove Deputy Speaker Rana.

The main opposition Maoist MP and Deputy Secretary General Shakti Basnet said that running a signature campaign against the Deputy Speaker Rana who is abroad cannot be accepted under any circumstances . Signature campaign is going on against the Deputy Speaker who is abroad. This treatment of socially active women does not seem favorable to inclusion, nor does it seem favorable from a social point of view, nor does it seem democratic. Stop this kind of despotic and vindictive behavior,' said Basnet.

Independent MP Amresh Kumar Singh, who is supporting the government, said that the removal of Deputy Speaker Rana should also be considered by small political parties. He said that pressure is being created on small political parties through the government and courts and there is a threat to democracy itself. 'Two big parties are working to harass the small ones in the name of two-party system, whether it is Raswapa or Jaspa Nepal . Independent and small parties, some are being tried to be removed from the deputy speaker, some are being tried to be imprisoned by influencing the court,' Singh said, 'I want to specially request the small party to distribute sweets when the next party ends, this is your intention too. Only two parties remain in the country, neither democracy nor small parties.'

Singh said that there was a political influence in the Supreme Court's order to investigate Jaspa Nepal president Upendra Yadav in the 14-year-old Rautahat murder case. "The influence of political parties in the judiciary is increasing, that is the biggest threat to Nepal's justice system and democracy," he said.

RSVP chief whip Santosh Pariyar said that the attempt to remove Deputy Speaker Rana from the post was an attack on the system by the executive. He said that actions are being taken from the Prime Minister's residence to hurt the Parliament. The kind of demonstration that took place in Baluwatar and Sinha Darbar yesterday has hurt the honorable House. The level of devaluing of a responsible position like the Deputy Speaker of the Honorable House by those who claim to be the heir of democracy is the biggest threat to democracy," Pariyar said. No matter how much you jump, you will not reach as high as he has received.'

Pariyar asked the members of the House of Representatives to take decisions with discretion and consider their abilities. Who is creating a threat to democracy? Who is undermining democracy? Who is threatening this system?', he asked, 'Congress and UML leaders who devalue the post of Deputy Speaker and are always chasing them should be serious, this country needs the next generation, this democracy is needed by the next generation. Do not attack the system for your vested interests.'

The RPP has accused the Congress and the UMA of removing the deputy speaker in order to appoint the Asepase after achieving the majority of the ruling coalition in the Constitutional Council. RPP MP Roshan Karki also warned Congress and UML MPs on behalf of the party. "They did not have a majority in the Constitutional Council." There was talk of accusing the Deputy Speaker of not befitting the office in order to appoint his supporters after reaching the majority. Congress and UML have corrected their MPs on blank paper . What kind of party to make it right? What gentlemen to correct? Damn it,' said Karki, 'he is doing business on his home minister visit visa, he has made a pot to earn, he will save it . The Deputy Speaker has only made a recommendation to move the time of the interview forward. It was discussed that he would be charged after extracting so much from it.'

United Samajwadi MP Sher Bahadur Kunwar said that Congress and UML are engaged in a campaign to ridicule the Parliament. "The signature campaign that has been done to remove the Deputy Speaker, the two major parties of power, UML and Congress together, is an insult to the women of this tribe. He has been insulted time and again. This has made a mockery of the dignity of the Parliament,' said Kunwar.

Maoist Deputy General Secretary Janardhan Sharma asked people to be aware because the activities of the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary are creating dissatisfaction among the people. "Due to the activities of the parliament, the government and the courts, people are showing dissatisfaction today, this is a challenge for the state and politics," he said. He urged them to be aware in time.

Maoist MP Shakti Basnet also accused the Congress and UML of going on a mission to impose a two-party system. He also said that the goal to be achieved by Congress and UML is one-party rule. 'The ruling parties seem to be walking on a mission of two-party system . In a multi-class social and economically diverse society like Nepal, this two-party system is neither theoretically correct nor practically appropriate,' Basnet said, 'the mission of this two-party system may eventually reach a one-party system . Among the two main parties, who will get that opportunity, they must be thinking. But the Nepali people will not allow their mission to be completed.'
